Wvu Florida Football Commits 2009

State of Florida

 Michael Carter

Height/Weight:  5′ 11″  – 154 Pounds

Position:  Cornerback

40 Yard Dash:  4.5 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  01/03/2009

Recruited by:  Doc Holliday

Carter is in top 15 at his position ( 12 ).  He’ll be a great addition to our nice incoming recruits for 2009.  Although a little undersized, he seems to get good reviews on his cover ability, but needs to work on his tackling.  Head Coach Bill Stewart will definately teach him how to attackle.

Please see his press conference below:

Eugene Smith

Height/Weight:  6′ 3″ – 182 pounds

Position:  Quarterback

40 Yard Dash:  4.82 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  11/10/2008

Recruited By:  Doc Holliday

Smith is a dual threat quarterback some would say, but with his 40 time, I’m not so sure.  He passed for 25 touchdowns and ran for 7 during his senior high school season.  I’ve seen him as high as #5 in the high school quarterback rankings.  He’s also been called the most gifted quarterback coming out of Florida this year.  Geno, as most call him, jumped in the Wvu mix once the Taj Boyd debacle unfolded.  Taj’s and his father made Bill Stewart look to another QB such as Geno and may have made Wvu make the best decision.  Only time will tell.

Stedman Bailey

Height/Weight:  5′ 11″ – 186 pounds

Position:  Wide Reciever

40 Yard Dash:  4.40 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  11/11/2008

Recruited by:  Doc Holliday

Bailey is being talked about as a great route runner.  Typically, in the past, when you hear comments like that about wide recievers, they are not the burners that outrun defenders.  He’s the high school teammate of Eugene Smith also.  So there is chemistry there already, which is always a plus.  Its also been said he has great hands.  Sounds like he’ll be the perfect underneath target to compliment Logan Heastie.  You can see an interview of him below.

Daquan Hargrett

Height/Weight:  5′ 9″ – 180 pounds

Position:  Running Back

40 Yard Dash:  4.5 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  6/18/2008

Hargrett is one of the better or best running back out of South Florida.  He’s small and quick.  I think of Noel Devine when I think of this guy, but not as highly touted coming out of high school.  He also has very good acceleration and can dance around.  The only knock is he may not be tough enough and needs to add some muscle.  Check out some of his runs in high school below.

Brodrick Jenkins

Height/Weigth:  5′ 10″ – 177 pounds

Position:  Wide Reciever / Cornerback

40 Yard Dash:  4.51 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  1/06/2009

Jenkins has done a little of everything it seems as a two way player.  He caught passes, defended passes and picked a few off, and returned kicks for touchdowns.  Where will we use him?  I cannot tell you that yet.  Spring drills/practice should tell us.  Some websites list him as a cover corner on defense and a scat-back type on offense, but think he’ll get on the field by returning kicks.  I couldn’t find any free videos of him.

Jonathan Scott

Height/Weight:  6′ 3″ – 190 pounds

Position:  Safety

40 Yard Dash:  4.6 seconds

Committed to Wvu:  1/18/2009

Recruited by:  Lonnie Galloway

A 6′ 3″ safety…..nice.  He’ll look quite imposing with Robert Sands in the defensive backfield who is 6′ 6″ tall.  He’s an upper shelf safety prospect from central Florida.  The following are quotes from him to www.scout.com

“I can cover a lot of ground and I move good. I have a long wing span and am a good size for a safety. I also love to hit and am a hard hitter.

“I’m working on improving my ball awareness. I also want to improve my speed. My goal is to get my 40 time in the 4.3-4.4 range (he claims to run a 4.5). I’m spending a lot of time working on my legs and getting stronger.”

Scott is also being recruited for basketball (10 points/8 rebounds per game) and track (6-foot-6 high jumper). “I really want to jump in college too,” he said. “I’ve been doing the high jump my whole life and I’d love to be able to continue doing it.”

I cannot find many videos on this kid.
